Partnerships
Our model at work
Iveco Trucks Australia Pty Ltd
IVECO Trucks Australia manufactures and distributes light,
medium and heavy commercial vehicles for the Australian road
transport industry.
Iveco employs over 400 people at its Dandenong plant.
Scope To gain consistency and a clear succession planning pathway,
Iveco Trucks is working with AIM to implement a Competency
Framework within their organisation.
Develop A Competency Framework to provide the business with key job
specifications and attributes to ensure individuals are performing
their job roles efficiently and effectively. It also provides a pathway
for professional development and succession planning.
Implement AIM is partnering with Iveco using the following process:
• Facilitate focus groups involving all levels of the organisation
• Developing key job role specifications
• Identifying key attributes and behaviors
• Engaging key stakeholders at all levels to ascertain and
agree on outcomes
• Delivering and implementing a complete Competency
Framework for all levels of the organisation
Evaluation and result Testimonial from Training Manager Antonio Calero, Iveco Trucks
Australia Pty Ltd.
‘Until the day we started working with AIM to implement a Competency
Framework, training in Iveco was done ad-hoc. It usually followed a
request from an employee who had decided, after consultation with
his/her direct manager, that a specific course might be useful.
In most cases, the course selection was based on personal
experiences from the employee or the manager. There were no tools
to assess the real training needs of each individual. This meant most
people felt the lack of an ongoing development plan, which directly
affected employee satisfaction and retention.
The first reaction to AIM’s proposal of a Competency Framework
was scepticism: some people didn’t trust new ideas – they were still
too affected by the previous ‘structureless scenario’. This changed
as soon as the activities with AIM started and people could see the
content of the program. The brainstorming sessions to analyse key
competencies were a huge success and there were so many people
who volunteered to participate that we needed to organise more
groups than originally planned.
People have since become very conscious of the priority that the
company is giving to its employees and their development needs.
Training is now seen as something continuous and dynamic that
adapts to the needs of the single individual on a structured logic. The
general outcome is very positive, where people have a clear vision of
their development path to a successful career within the organisation.
Most of the credit for this changed attitude must go to AIM and its
professional team, who provided not only a useful tool, but helped
people in our company to understand how important appropriate
structured training is to improving work performance and employee
satisfaction.’
