Chris Brown – Chair since May 2007
LLB, FAIM

Chris Brown is a career corporate advisor (investment banker). Formerly provided advice to Governments on major privatisations such as the Commonwealth Bank, Telstra and Qantas and to major corporations such as Futuris on corporate transactions

Born in Peru, Chris lived in 18 houses as a child as his father was a mining engineer. Commencing school in Bermuda and finishing in Adelaide he achieved a law degree from the University of Adelaide.

His wife – Jocelyn, is trained as a hotelier and hypnotherapist, amongst other things – and daughter – Zoe, he believes is far smarter and nicer than her father. An active man Chris takes great pleasure from spending time with his family and loves food (both cooking and eating!), listens to most music and enjoys snowboarding, skiing, sailing and squash in his free time. One of his ambitions is to sail from Europe/USA.


 
     

Colin Hiles - Deputy Chair since 2005
FAIM

Colin Hiles is a corporate and securities lawyer with more than 45 years experience of practice in South Africa, Australia and Hong Kong. Colin migrated to Australia from South Africa in 1986. He has recently retired as a partner of national law firm Dibbs Abbott Stillman and is now an independent consultant to that firm and to a number of his key corporate clients.

Colin was at one time a partner of international law firm Phillips Fox where he was at various times a Managing Partner, member of the National Board and National Chairman.

Colin has a special interest in corporate governance and co-authored the Corporate Governance booklet “Seeing Beyond Compliance: A Guide for the Effective Board” which was adapted and published in both English and Mandarin by Charltons, a specialist corporate finance law firm, for use in Hong Kong SAR. Colin has published articles and conducted seminars for professional bodies on good governance and risk management.

He has served on the boards of directors of a number of companies, many of which were listed on Australian and other international stock exchanges. He is currently the Chairman of an unlisted public company.

Colin’s interests include; travel, food and wine, the ballet and most sports.


 
     

Maureen Turner – Deputy Chair, Director since 2001
BA (Hons) Business, MBA, FAIM

Maureen Turner, at the commencement of her career operated a music teaching business specialising in piano and strings tuition in New South Wales and Queensland.

After living in the UK for seven years she made a career transition to business management, focusing on the sport, leisure and recreation industry. Returning to Australia in 1996, Maureen was appointed to the role of National Sales and Marketing Manager at Lloyds Register Quality Assurance Limited.

Since joining Ford Credit in 2000 Maureen has occupied management roles in several areas of the business including business development, operations and risk management. Currently she is the Marketing Services Manager for the organisation.

An experienced scuba diver and mountain bike racer, Maureen has mentored many young people as a scuba diving instructor and mountain bike coach. In addition to these leisure activities, Maureen enjoys classical music, modern literature, landscape photography and adventure travel.


 
     

Richard Garvey – Non-Executive Director since 2000
B Comm, MBA, FCA FAIM

Richard Garvey is currently a General Manager of the family office of a well known Melbourne family and is responsible for management of their private investment interests.

Prior to his current role Richard spent 30 years in chartered accounting with KPMG, including the last 21 years as a partner specialising in assurance, tax and advisory services to a broad range of clients mainly in KPMG's Middle Market practice. Richard also held a senior risk management and policy setting role within KPMG and has had significant experience in forensic accounting and expert determinations.

Richard has been a Board Member of AIM Victoria and Tasmania since 2000 and was President and a National Board Member between 2003 and May 2007.


 
     

Stewart J Leslie – Non-Executive Director since 2004
FCA, FAIM

Stewart Leslie has been a member of AIM since 1999 and a member of the AIM VT Board since 2004 and is the Chair of the Audit & Finance Committee.

After qualifying for admission to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia in 1977, Stewart pursued a career in professional practice, providing advisory and assurance services to a clientele that included listed public companies, significant privately owned enterprises, small and medium sized enterprises, educational institutions and not for profit entities. He was a partner in the Melbourne office of Big Four Chartered Accountants KPMG from 1986 to 2001.

Since leaving KPMG, Stewart has been appointed to the Board of the Royal Women's Hospital and the Audit Committee of the Australian Red Cross Blood Service. He has also been appointed as Chair of Audit and Risk Management Committees in the public sector. Apart from these roles, he provides consulting services to the automotive industry and acts in an advisory capacity for emerging businesses.


 
     

James Sarros - Non-Executive Director since 2008
FAIM, BA, DipEd, BEd, MEd, PhD

James is a Professor in the Department of Management, Monash University.

James has a long and distinguished career in the field on management. He has published over 70 refereed articles, 40 texts, monographs, working papers, and 100 conference papers and colloquia; many of which have won best paper awards at international conferences or in relevant management journals.

James has also held a number of Directorships on various Boards of Management both in Australia and overseas and brings a wealth of management and research expertise to AIM and is a great addition to the AIMVT Board.


 
     

Sam Osborn - Non-Executive Director since 2008
B.Ec, FAIM

Sam leads the Principals' team in Melbourne. With a background in marketing management and brand strategy, Sam brings a unique mix of client and consulting experience to Principals. Since joining Principals in January 2008, he’s worked on a range of existing and new client projects. His clients include NAB, Coles, CGU and the Alannah and Madeline Foundation.

As CEO and a founding director of the Australian arm of global brand consultancy Interbrand, Sam has worked with many leading national and international brands. In Australia, these include ANZ, Bluescope, Cadbury Schweppes, GE Money, Fonterra, McDonalds, Telstra, Toyota and Tourism NZ. He has also held senior marketing roles with the RACV and NAB. When not advising on brands he is talking about brands at conferences, client events and in the media.


 
     

Carolyn Viney – Non-Executive Director since 2008
LLB, FAIM

Carolyn Viney is currently General Manager of Grocon’s National Developments Group where she is responsible for formulating and managing Grocon’s strategy in identifying and realising property development opportunities in the Australian market. In doing this, Carolyn manages a team of experienced development personnel ranging from project managers and architects through to lawyers. Carolyn’s previous role with Grocon was that of General Counsel - Property and Developments where she was employed in a ‘hands on’ capacity to manage the legal negotiations for Grocon’s property and development projects.

An earlier role was held at Minter Ellison Lawyers as a Lawyer and Senior Associate where Carolyn acted for a range of Government and private clients in connection with property acquisitions, disposals, development leasing and commercial leasing transactions. In her role as Lawyer at Garland Hawthorn Brahe Lawyers, Carolyn acted for various Government and semi-Government authorities in the compulsory acquisition of land for State projects.

Carolyn is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria, Australian Corporate Lawyers Association and Property Council of Australia.
