A major new research project in Tasmania will examine what needs to be done to maximise living standards, wealth generation and business sector performance in the state by 2020.

Details of the survey, to be conducted by the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) were outlined today at an executive function in Hobart at which the Tasmanian Government Treasurer, Michael Aird was the keynote speaker.

Interview with Susan Heron, CEO Australian Institute of Management about the business sector's unpreparedness for the emissions trading scheme.

According to the results of the survey 36% didn't know that it was coming in to effect in 2010 and 44% had no idea it was coming in at all because people don't know what it is and therefore don't know what the cost or the impact is going to be.
Heron says as a business you should be aware that you will have obligations under this and someone in your organisation must be responsible for your sustainability policy.
Heron says it will probably be a new and full time position for most organisations. Heron says the government needs to make sure Australian businesses aren't at a competitive disadvantage due to the ETS. Heron says the government needs to make sure its communication is very clear because people will be looking to them for information.
