Manage Financial Resources 2012

Knowing the language of accounting and having the ability
to prepare a solid business case is a vital skill for managers.

This program has been developed to equip non-financial managers with
the knowledge to interpret financial statements, develop wellreasoned and
meaningful budgets, judge the viability of capital projects in cash flow terms,
and improve their skills in the area of cost control, profit planning and profit
improvement.

Duration
One day a fortnight over eight weeks (four sessions)

Designed for
Middle and senior managers who do not have formal accounting qualifications,
but need to have a knowledge of financial management and profit
performance evaluation and management.

Content
• Analysis and interpretation of financial statements - balance sheets, income,
cash flows, internal budgets
• Internal management reporting concepts - costing systems, budgeting,
break-even analysis, contribution margins and costvolume-profit analysis
• Evaluation of investment proposals
• Development and implementation of performance measures

• Outline the framework for managing financial resources
• Discuss the basic concepts and principles which underpin the finance and
accounting function
• Explain how financial information is generated through the accounting cycle
• Analyse and interpret financial statements by using ratio analysis
• Examine and assess the use of operating drivers, budgeting, and financial
planning in business
• Examine how operating, investment, financial and other decisions interact
within a broader strategic framework
