Accounting for Non-Accountants 2012

This is a practical program for people from non-accounting backgrounds
who would like to better appreciate the importance of accounting and
financial issues within the framework of their organisation.

Participants will gain an understanding of accounting terminology and
concepts, the three main accounting statements, budgeting and variance
analysis and how to read financial reports to enable a better use of financial
information when decision making.

• Introduction to accounting concepts and terminology
• Principles of the double entry system and accruals
• Analysis and interpretation of financial statements
• Use of financial information for short term and long term decision making
• Depreciation of capital assets
• Statutory requirements, including the treatment of GST
• Budget reports

• Analyse and interpret financial reports including the balance sheet, income
and cash flow statements
• Describe the concept of working capital
• Describe the purpose of depreciation of capital expenditure
• Use budget reports to manage business operations
